WOW! July has been action-packed at the Lower School with preparations for the new school year! With help from our dedicated faculty, schedules have been coordinated, supplies have been ordered, classrooms have been cleaned and decorated, storage areas have been cleaned out and organized, loads of ideas about projects and activities have been shared, and Lower School departmental teams are already meeting to put plans into action for THE BEST opening of school ever!
These are a few Lower School news highlights:
â—Ź Our Early Childhood division (PK3, PK4, K) is hosting GET THE SCOOP Night on Monday, August 4 at 6 pm to welcome our littlest Falcons and their parents. A fun, informative back-to-school program has been planned that will end with an ice cream social on the playground. While parents are “getting the scoop” about the school year, I – along with several Upper School students and other faculty and staff – will be supervising the children on the playground. Brandie Holt, the LS DPA Representative will have a welcome table set up in the foyer, the YMCA After-School Care staff will be in their class space to answer questions, and an EdLine Help Desk will be available for anyone needing help to set up his or her account.
â—Ź Supply Drop-off for Grades 1-6 will be Friday, August 8 from 8-12 noon. This is an informal drop-in time to pick up packets, turn in forms and purchase milk and/or lunch cards. LS teachers will be in their classrooms, so feel free to drop off your supplies and say “hello” to your teacher. All 4th graders, new students in grades 5-6 or any 5-6 students with a new iPad, should plan to bring their iPad with them. Mrs. Garrett will be in Room 94 to set-up student iPads to access the Donoho WiFi during this time.
â—Ź The daily schedule for intermediates (Gr 4-6) has been modified slightly to accommodate a change in the Community period to the end of the day (beginning at 2:30).
â—Ź For the upcoming school year, students in grades 4-6 will not be dressing out for PE. Students will need sneakers or athletic shoes for PE but will not be required to purchase PE uniforms or locks.
â—Ź DPA has planned this year’s Lower School Scholastic Book Fair for the week of August 25-29. Students will have opportunities to visit throughout the week during school hours, but the Fair will also be open the evening of Open House on August 25 for parents. (More details about Open House will be coming soon!)
One of my girls wrote in a congratulatory post on social media when I was named Lower School Director, “Once a Falcon, ALWAYS a Falcon, right Mom?” ABSOLUTELY! While the experiences and opportunities I have had during the past eleven years have enriched me personally and professionally, it is a dream come true to be back in Anniston and once again a part of the Donoho School community. I look forward to meeting each of you and welcoming your children back to school on August 11th!
Until then,
Jean Jaudon
Lower School Director
