Scholar-Athlete of the Week: Thomas Conley
Thomas Conley, a senior, is a member of the varsity football team, playing as a wide receiver and cornerback, and a member of the varsity golf team.
Thomas carries a 3.7 GPA and scored a 32 on the ACT. His favorite subject is biology. When asked why this was his favorite subject, he comments, “I’ve always enjoyed science and I plan to attend medical school.” His greatest academic achievement was receiving a higher composite score on the ACT. When asked who has had the most influence on him academically, Thomas responded, “My former chemistry and pre-calculus teacher, Mr. Phillip Krosnar. He made both subjects easy to understand and inspired me to do my best in every subject.”
Athletically, his greatest achievement has been overcoming an injury last season and working hard to get stronger so he could play his senior season. When asked who has had the most influence on him as an athlete, he said, “My football coach, Coach Shannon Felder, because he drove me to be the best I can be at football. He has been my coach for six years, and even though I couldn’t play last year, he continued to encourage me to work hard and play this year.”
He is a member of the Chess Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes and Students, Focus Group, Knox Concert Service Club, Marksmanship Club, Science Club, Spanish Club and Young Republicans of America Club. He attends Parker Memorial Baptist Church, where he volunteers during Vacation Bible School and Music Day Camp.
Thomas is the son of Mollye Phillips and Tom Conley. He plans to attend Emory University, but is unsure about his choice of major at this time.
Congratulations, Thomas!
