To honor the life of Ms. Karen Hester, beloved alumna, teacher, coach, and administrator, Donoho students made contributions to the ALS Foundation through observing Concern for Others.
Thursday morning, Olivia Davis, SGA President, presented a check in Ms. Hester’s memory on behalf of the student body to former Head of School, Mrs. Jan Hurd, and former faculty, Mrs. Beverly Otwell. Mrs. Hurd spoke to students about ALS disease and shared Ms. Hester’s spirit of determination and drive to succeed in everything she approached.
Mrs. Hurd shared the words Ms. Hester spoke to her volleyball team as they were about to play in the final game of the State Volleyball Tournament:
“Stop for a moment and look around and appreciate where you are and the people you are with each day of your journey. Remember that you are here to enrich someone’s life by teaching them how to learn, and sometimes, how to live. Quickly, quarters become semesters, and semesters years, and years a lifetime. Leave no regrets.”
It was an honor to have Mrs. Hurd and Mrs. Otwell back on Donoho’s campus. Karen Hester’s inspiring legacy will be kept close in heart to all in the Donoho family, and her dedication to our school, drive for success, and honest, approachable demeanor will always be remembered.
