Richmond Burton ’78 Gifts Artwork to School!
As part of the Class of ’78 Reunion held over the weekend of August 3-5, a painting by nationally-known artist and class member, Richmond Burton, was presented to the school. While a student at The Donoho School, Mr. Burton created the painting, which is a portrait of alumna Ann Porteous Angell ’77. The painting was presented by Kay Weymouth Williams ’78 on behalf of Mr. Burton and the Class of ’78.
Mr. Burton’s work, which is described as “colorful and harmonious paintings and graphic work that are composites of his vocabulary of organic shapes that flow together in undulating patterns resulting in unique multi-colored abstractions” has been exhibited throughout the US and the world at numerous solo exhibitions and in museum collections including the National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, and more locally at The Birmingham Museum of Art. Mr. Burton attended Rice University after leaving Donoho, receiving degrees in 1982 and 1984.
The painting, befitting its connection to the Class of ’78, will be displayed in the office of Lower School Director, Jean Swift Jaudon, also a member of the class.
