Outstanding Alumni Testimonial: Mrs. Lauren Burney Houseknecht, ‘04
Mrs. Lauren Burney Houseknecht attended Auburn University, finishing in 2008 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. She received her Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama in 2011.
Upon graduation from law school, she moved to Huntsville, Alabama, where she began practicing as an attorney at Lanier Ford Shaver & Payne, P.C. She is a member of the medical malpractice group at Lanier Ford where her work is focused on defending physicians, hospitals, nursing homes, and other health care providers in professional malpractice litigation. She has also worked in several other areas of litigation, including municipal torts, products liability, contract disputes, property law, education law, and intellectual property. While in law school, she also clerked at the law firms of Hand Arendall, LLC, in Birmingham and Vickers, Riis, Murray & Curran, LLC, in Mobile.
Mrs. Houseknecht is a member of the Alabama Bar Association and The Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, and volunteers with the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers Program and Habitat for Humanity. In 2011, she was awarded the Lanier Ford Shaver & Payne Patents Award.
When asked what one piece of advice she would give to Donoho students, she replied, “I would probably tell current and future Donoho students to savor the time they get to spend at Donoho and to not take any part of it for granted. They are blessed to be able to attend an extraordinary school with top-tier faculty and staff, and I can say from experience that while they may find it difficult at times, it really will prepare them extremely well for college and for their future careers.”
She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Justin Burney. She and her husband, Coleman, currently reside in Huntsville, Alabama.
