New Scholarship Named for Former Headmaster Dr. Allan E. Strand

The Donoho School is pleased to announce the establishment of a named endowment to fund the Dr. Allan E. Strand Scholarship for a 7th grade student. The fund was established by an anonymous donation.

Dr. Allan E. Strand served The Anniston Academy, now The Donoho School, from 1966 – 1971, as its third headmaster. During his tenure, the academy’s educational mission was affirmed, and the faculty and students benefited from Dr. Strand’s vision, integrity, energy and academic excellence. Dr. Strand has served as a teacher and headmaster at schools such as Darlington School, Memphis University School, The Lovett School, and Newark Academy. He is also a retired commander of Naval Intelligence and has served as a consultant for Educator’s Collaborative and as president of the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation. He and his wife, Anne, currently reside in Selma, Alabama.

The endowed scholarship will be awarded to a rising 7th grade student who currently attends The Donoho School or has been accepted for admission to the school. The recipient, who otherwise would not be able to attend or continue to attend the school due to financial circumstances, should demonstrate the ability and desire to succeed academically and possess an individual interest in fine arts and/or athletics. The scholarship awarded will cover 100% of the yearly tuition and can be renewed on a yearly basis as long as the student remains in good standing.
