Maggie Wakefield ’22 has been selected to join Camp Broadway’s Ensemble in their appearance at this year’s 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.
Each year, the Macy’s Parade creative team looks for performance groups that have the talent and abilities to captivate more than 3.5 million live spectators and more than 50 million viewers. Camp Broadway was selected from hundreds of performance groups across the country and marks their 10th appearance in this iconic parade.
Camp Broadway LLC, the award-winning theatre arts enrichment company, will perform Irving Berlin’s “This Is A Great Country” in the 91st Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade featuring an ensemble cast of students, ranging in age from 9-16, who represent immediate family members of active duty military personnel, veterans, reservists, wounded warriors and fallen heroes from all the branches of the United States Armed Forces.
Maggie learned about this opportunity from Camp Broadway’s summer program, a program she has participated in for two years now. For the audition, she performed the song, “Grand Ole Flag” to a choreographed routine. Maggie is excited to honor her Grandfather who served in the Navy.
Maggie will participate in a special 5-day program leading up to the parade performance which includes a series of Broadway workshops, classes, and rehearsals to prepare for the nationally televised performance. She will walk the entire 2.4 miles with her group and perform en route. They are scheduled for a 1 minute 20 second routine at Herald Square in front of Macy’s and will be featured on NBC’s The Today Show.
The Camp Broadway Kids Ensemble features 128 talented kids from 104 cities located throughout America who will travel to New York City to participate in this once-in-a-lifetime national event. Maggie was the only recipient from the state of Alabama.
