The Donoho School to Present Outstanding Alumni Awards During 50th Anniversary Celebration

The Donoho School will honor nine outstanding alumni for their achievement and/or service as a part of the school’s fiftieth anniversary weekend of celebrations September 14 – 16, 2013.

Following are members of the 2013 class of Outstanding Alumni:

Mr. Jeffrey S. Ballard, ’80 – Mr. Ballard is a partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Ballard Spahr LLP, a nationwide law firm of over 500 attorneys. Mr. Ballard received an undergraduate degree from Stanford University (A.B., 1984) where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and his law degree from George Washington University (J.D., 1990) where he was a member of The George Washington Law Review. He currently resides in Arlington, Virginia.

Mrs. Griffin Doster Fry, ’76 – Mrs. Doster is a dedicated wife, mother and daughter who is committed to the community in which she resides. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Kenyon College in 1980 and has been involved with the alumni association of the college, serving as the vice-president of the regional alumni association in the greater Atlanta area. She currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Ms. Anne Klinefelter, ’77 – Ms. Klinefelter is the Director of the Law Library and Associate Professor of Law at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. She received a B.A. in English and Spanish in 1981, Master of Library Service in 1986 and Juris Doctorate degree in 1992, all from the University of Alabama. She currently resides in Durham, North Carolina.

Mrs. Sharel Love Laidig, ’81 – Mrs. Laidig is owner and CEO of the firm MedEmploys, a healthcare consulting and staffing recruitment firm specializing in practice opportunities located in the south. She received a Health Services Administration degree from Auburn University in 1985 and a post-graduate degree in Accounting from the University of Alabama-Huntsville in 1988. She currently resides in Madison, Alabama.

Dr. John Andrew Morrow, Jr., ’78 – Dr. Morrow is a clinical cardiologist with Cardiology Associates of Mobile. He received his B.A. in Chemistry from Vanderbilt University in 1982, completed medical school at the University of Alabama-Birmingham in 1986, completed an internal medicine residency at Vanderbilt University in 1989, and completed a cardiology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in 1992. He currently resides in Mobile, Alabama.

Mrs. Joanne King Pope, ’70 – Mrs. King is a retired special education instructor who has held various positions at the ARC of Calhoun & Cleburne Counties and is currently the co-director of the Interfaith Ministries’ Meals on Wheels program. She received a B.A. of psychology from Florida Southern College in 1974, her M.S. Ed. from Jacksonville State University in 1978 and a degree in educational administration from Jacksonville State University in 1982. She currently resides in Anniston, Alabama.

Mrs. Grazier Connors Rhea, ’70 – Mrs. Rhea is the community development director at the Catawba Regional Council in Governments. She received a B.A. from Converse College. She currently resides in Rock Hill, South Carolina.

Mr. David M. Smith, ’75 – Mr. Smith is a senior shareholder and practice group leader at Maynard, Cooper & Gale, P.C. He received a B.A. from Birmingham-Southern College in 1979 and his Juris Doctorate degree from Vanderbilt University in 1982. He currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama.

Dr. Beth Gibbins White, ’88 – Dr. White is the founder of the Animal Eye Center in Birmingham, Alabama, and opened a satellite location in Huntsville, Alabama, in 2005. She received a B.S. in Biology from Davidson College in 1992, a D.V.M. from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996, completed an ophthalmology internship and residency at Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine from 2000 to 2004, and became a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Ophthalmologists in 2005. She currently resides in Birmingham, Alabama.

Awards will be presented during the school’s Founders’ Day program on Monday, September 16, beginning at 10:00 a.m. on the school’s campus.

The Outstanding Alumni Award was established to honor outstanding alumni who have achieved a high level of professional accomplishment and/or have made significant personal contributions through their involvement in community service. Nominations were made by peers.
