Congratulations to the Donoho Lady Falcons Soccer team for having earned the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Academic Team Award for the school year 2009-2010. The 2010 team was one of 242 girls’ soccer teams from throughout the United States and one of three from the state of Alabama to have earned this award. The NSCAA is an organization of American soccer coaches with more than 22,000 members, making it the largest coaching organization in the world. The NSCAA recognizes excellence in soccer with an extensive awards program that includes All-America teams for college, high school and youth play, Scholar All-America teams for college and high school, a national rankings program for college and high school and Coach of the Year awards for all levels of play. To qualify for the award, the team must have a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale. The Donoho team average was 3.5.
Kelsy Crawford, Corey Phillis, Darsey Norton and Kendra Crawford led the way by maintaining a 4.0 GPA for the entire academic year. In addition to the academic success achieved by the Donoho girls’ team, they were also successful on the field of play finishing the season with a 10-7-2 record. Still a relatively young team, Donoho will look to continue that success both in the classroom and on the field during the upcoming season.
