Scholar-Athlete of the Week: Corey Phillis

Senior Corey Phillis, middle blocker for the Falcons’ volleyball team since her freshman year, recently passed a milestone of 1,000 career kills. Her current total stands at 1,015. Corey has been named to the JVA All-National 17 and Under Team, is on the Under Armour All-American watch list, was past MVP of the AHSAA Class 1A State Tournament for 2012 and has attained many other awards as a member of the Donoho volleyball program.

Corey carries a 4.4 GPA and scored a 31 on the ACT. Her greatest academic achievement was receiving awards for the highest academic average in Speech and French 4. She comments, “My class is full of bright, intelligent people, so it is big for me to be held at the same high standards as my peers.”

She has applied to Dartmouth College under the early decision program, and is also considering Brown University, Rhodes College, University of Chicago, Tufts University and Georgetown University. She plans to pursue a career in medicine.

She is a member of the DD Club, and has participated in UCP Telethon, Kiwanis Back to School Shopping, Woodstock and the Tootsie Roll Drive.

She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Terry Phillis of Anniston, and sister to Erin ’13 and Regan ’17. When asked who was her greatest influence, she says, “My dad has had the greatest influence on my athletics and academics. He played football at Dartmouth and was still able to take on the load of an Ivy League education.”
