Condolences to the Family of Julie Jenkins Isola, ’81

Dr. Anne Juliane Jenkins Isola, 53, passed from this world on April 5, 2016. Born March 16, 1963, Julie has excelled ever since, graduating as valedictorian of the Donoho School in 1981, Auburn University with a major in English in 1985 and the University of South Alabama with a Degree in medicine in 1989. She completed her first year of residency in Memphis and returned to the University of South Alabama to complete her residency. She became board certified in Internal Medicine and a member of the American College of Physicians and subsequently began her private practice in partnership with Dr. Winston T. Edwards at Central Alabama Internal Medicine Associates, P.C. Ultimately she transitioned to her deep passion as a Founding Director and Head of Palliative Care Services, Baptist Health, in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Isola was also board certified in Hospice Care and Palliative Medicine. She was an influential member on the Ethics Committee at Baptist Health and was well respected by her colleagues and adored by virtually every person she touched. She was a member of the faculty of UAB Montgomery Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Isola served on numerous Committees and Departments during her time here. She made significant contributions to the care of patients at Baptist Health. Most recently she was the Vice Chair of the Medicine department, Chair of the UR/MR Committee, Member of the P&T Committee and also served on the Ethics Committee. She was Secretary/Treasurer of the Medical Executive Committee as well. Since 2001 she has served on the following: Infection Control, Ethics, QA/QI, MEC, Blood Utilization, P&T, M&M, UR/MR, PALG and Bylaws. She was past President of the Montgomery County Medical Society and awarded Physician of Year 2016. A unique combination of beauty, talent and intelligence, her presence in this world will be deeply missed. Julie’s parents were Anita and Julian Jenkins (deceased 2015). She is survived by her husband, Ken Isola; her beloved Great Dane, Duchess; sisters, Heather Enger (Hjalmar) and Jill Low (Rob) and brother Jay Jenkins (Kim); several nieces, nephews, family and friends and far too many patients to mention. The family would like to offer our most heartfelt thanks to the Staff of Baptist Hospital, Baptist Hospice, Palliative Care, Dr. Samuel Saliba, Dr. Scott McDaniel, Susan Lyles, Paige Butler and Patricia Long. Service celebrating the life of Dr. Isola will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Montgomery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to Joy to Life Foundation, Baptist Hospice, Palliative Care Services or your chosen charity.
