Annie Lindor is a successful professional from Haiti who now works and lives in our community. She came to the U.S. at 14 years old and did not know any English. She now speaks French, Creole, English, and some Spanish. Students learned about the Haitian culture and compared their experiences of culture, education, and living conditions to Mrs. Lindor’s. This experience also allowed students the unique opportunity to connect recent news about Haitians and immigration with their own personal experience of meeting a Haitian immigrant who is serving our community. The French club also enjoyed meeting Mrs. Lindor and was excited to communicate with her in French!
Carlos Martinez is a certified dog trainer at Xtreme Concepts and speaks Spanish, English, French, Arabic, and Dutch. Carlos is a native of the Dominican Republic and resides in our community with his wife and daughter. The students learned about the Dominican culture and compared their experiences of culture, education, and living conditions to Mr. Martinez’s. The Spanish club enjoyed meeting a native speaker of the Dominican Republic and was excited to meet Alisa and Shadow, two dogs Mr. Martinez is currently training.
Fun fact: Both Mrs. Lindor and Mr. Martinez are from the Hispaniola Island!
Thank you to Mrs. Lindor and Mr. Martinez for spending time with our students. We enjoyed learning from you both!
