Sixth Grader, Meghana Giri, Wins County Spelling Bee

Can you spell C-H-A-M-P-I-O-N?

Meghana Giri, a sixth grader at The Donoho School, certainly can!

Meghana, representing the lower school, finished first out of thirty-four contestants from schools throughout Calhoun County to become the Calhoun County Spelling Bee Champion.

Her winning word was rhinoceros, and she also conquered such words as decaffeinate, serotonin, juggernaut and harpsichord.

Chandler Collins, Donoho’s middle school representative in the county bee, finished in the top ten.

Meghana will now represent Calhoun County in the state spelling bee March 5, 2011.
