Forty-eight students in grades 7 – 9 participated in the New Orleans intersession trip this year. The students and their chaperones explored the city by bus, on foot, and by boat. Science and history were incorporated into their activities. History was explored through visiting the World War II Museum, the Houmas House Plantation, the French Quarter, and the city’s Garden District. Science was enhanced by visits to the zoo, the aquarium, the IMAX theater, and a tour of the swamp area. Knowledge of real world economics was gained through bartering at the French Market. Students’ multicultural awareness was broadened through sampling local cuisine and listening to Cajun, Creole, and French dialects native to the area.
