ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: Max Garrett ’16

Alumnus Max Garrett (’16) is making the most of his time at Bellmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. Recently, Max became a volunteer at the W.O. Smith Music School. W.O. Smith makes quality music instruction available to children from low-income families. Their goal is to transform lives through music. Students can pay 50 cents and receive music lessons given by volunteer faculty. Volunteers like Max donate an hour of their time each week to teach either a class or two half-hour student lessons.

Max felt compelled to volunteer at W.O. Smith Music School out of a drive to gain more depth in music and a desire to become more involved with his new community. Since beginning in February, Max has been teaching two siblings named Madonna and Filopateer. He has been teaching piano to Madonna and has been teaching Filopateer to play drums.

This opportunity is giving Max the room he needs to find out what more he can do with music and to discover if teaching music is a potential future endeavor. So far, Max has enjoyed the thrill of witnessing his students shape into musicians.

Donoho is proud of you, Max! We know you will continue to do great things!
