2024 Outstanding Alumnus, Greg Wheeler ’82

The Donoho School selects an Outstanding Alumnus/Alumna of the Year annually to recognize a graduate who has distinguished themselves through achievements since graduating from Donoho. Past honorees have excelled in business, academia, medicine, and service. Our 63 recipients epitomize the values of our mission, and we are very proud to announce the 2024 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, John MacGregor (Greg) Wheeler, ’82.

While at The Donoho School, Greg enjoyed the close-knit community and the legacy he shared with his siblings and close friends. After graduating in 1982, Greg went to Washington and Lee University where he received his Bachelor of Arts in Economics. From there, he attended Stanford University to take business courses before completing his Master of Arts in Sports Marketing at St. Thomas University.

Greg gained valuable experiences working for the PGA Tour, General Motors Sports Marketing Agency, and IMG. Within these various roles, he worked on sponsorships for major sports leagues including the NFL, MLB, NCAA, and, of course, the PGA Tour. He ran Allstate accounts managing the sponsorships of over 90 universities, and he currently works for Learfield, the multimedia rights holder to more than 150 universities.

Greg and his wife, Sarah, have been married for almost 34 years, and together, they have three children: Hannah Wheeler Searles (30) of Atlanta, Evelyn Wheeler Adams (28) of Houston, and John Wheeler (24) of Atlanta. They have a new grandson, James, and another grandchild on the way.

He recently moved back to Alabama for the first time since graduating from The Donoho School. Currently, he is involved in The Rotary Club of Birmingham and The Friends of Avondale Park, and he is enjoying reconnecting and reengaging with the Donoho family.

Please join us in congratulating The Donoho School 2024 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year, Mr. John MacGregor Wheeler, Class of 1982!
